The series Shift confronts the sensory overload and disorientation of a subway ride. Compressed into narrow spaces, passengers appear almost mechanical—detached from one another, unfamiliar even to themselves, overwhelmed by the speed and density of urban movement. Individual figures and fleeting impressions merge into a shifting, abstract mass.
Subways function as the arteries of the city, places where the diversity of society becomes most visible. At the same time, they are spaces shaped by stress, acceleration, and a subtle distance between people. Although bodies are pressed together in close proximity, social separation remains. The works reflect on the consequences of a performance-driven society and the numbing effect of constant movement.
