Brücke and Brücke Zwei form a new Chapter after the series Shift, which consists of paintings, prints, and drawings. The works originated from dense fineliner drawings in which fragmented scenes of a hectic subway ride merge into an organic, almost abstract mass of figures and gestures. Brenner is particularly interested in the fleeting encounters of different characters within urban space and the subtle tension between strangers who briefly share the same environment.

In Brücke Zwei, this journey reaches its endpoint at the staircase leading back to the surface. Figures move almost synchronously between the steps and a first glimpse of the sky, while the composition simultaneously evokes the bird’s-eye view of a city illuminated in the early evening or morning. Two perspectives - subway interior and urban landscape - coexist within the same pictorial space.
