The project Skin emerges from the collective project I’m fine!?, which explored mental health, vulnerability, and healing through a painting diary, artist book, and performance at Somos Berlin. Torn copies of pages from this diary form the material foundation of the new works.
Initially stapled directly onto the wall in a performative process, the fragments are transferred onto linen—returning them to an old yet newly activated medium: the canvas. With Skin, Brenner-Havelka-Plessl developed a new technique and visual language that became a foundation for subsequent projects. Individual authorship becomes unreadable as personal gestures are torn, layered, and absorbed into a collective image.
The resulting objects combine performance, conceptual art, painting, printmaking, photography, and sculptural processes. Skin becomes both image and body: vulnerable, perforated, scarred, yet held together. Staples function as wounds and bonds, suggesting that healing does not erase rupture but transforms its fragments into something new.
